The Project
A friend reached out to me to design a rapper logo that he can use on albums and as a recognizable brand on music accounts. The goal was to create something unique, utilizing a script-like font, and featuring a diamond, as that was a symbol important to his image.
The Process
Both versions of this logo were created using Adobe Illustrator.

Since the diamond was one of the key things the client wanted to include, I chose to make two variations of the logo. One where the diamond is treated as an emblem and is the main focus of the logo. The Second version I wanted to have the K’LO name to be the focus, and the diamond could be used as a supplemental element.

First, I found a font that had a stylish handwriting appearance. Then, I broke up the “K” letterform to extract the piece that I would use for the “L” letterform. Finally, I adjusted the spacing so that the logo was legible, yet subtle.

The Purpose
I chose to do two versions of this logo because I knew that the logo would be used as both a profile icon, and as a way to formally write the artist name. So, I felt that two different versions would be the best way accomplish all the different uses.

I designed the emblem logo with the intent that it would be used for album covers, profile icons, and even merchandise, if the artist chose to pursue that form of branding down the line. So, I wanted this logo to be something big that attracts attention, and features the diamond as the main element, encompassing the text.

The text logo was designed with the intent that it would be used in more common scenarios, such as a smaller credit on albums or posters, as well as a legible, yet unique, way to display the artist’s name on printed materials.

Despite having two different versions of this logo, I wanted to connect the two versions through the use of the diamond. So, in the emblem logo, the diamond is the main element (“Emblem”). In the text logo, I shrank the diamond and instead used this shape as the apostrophe in the artist’s name. Also, since the text logo would be used in more official contexts, I wanted to include all elements of the artist’s name, including the apostrophe.
